Frequently Asked Questions

These are some of the most common questions we are asked at The Vein Clinic. If you have a question relating to any of our procedures or treatments, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us.

What is a vein clinic, and what services do you offer?

A vein clinic is a medical facility or practice that specialises in diagnosing and treating various conditions related to the veins, particularly those in the legs. The Vein Clinic offers a range of services aimed at addressing venous disorders and improving the overall health and appearance of a patient's veins. These include:

Venous Duplex Ultrasound

We often start with a diagnostic ultrasound examination to assess the condition of your leg veins. This non-invasive procedure helps identify problems such as varicose veins, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and chronic venous insufficiency (CVI).

Varicose Vein Treatment

Our two most requested procedures are endovenous laser therapy (EVLT) and VNUS closureFAST. The Venefit procedure uses much less heat energy to seal veins than laser and is associated with significantly less bruising and pain. You’ll receive detailed information during your consultation to help you choose the best option. Recent data shows that 94% of treated veins remain closed and free from reflux five years post-treatment.

Spider Vein Treatment

Spider veins are smaller, superficial veins that can appear as red, blue, or purple webs on the skin's surface. We offer treatments such as sclerotherapy to reduce or eliminate their appearance.

Compression Therapy

Compression stockings or garments are often recommended to improve circulation and reduce symptoms. We offer a tailored service for patients with venous disorders, lip oedema, lymphoedema, and chronic disease secondary to DVT.

Thrombosis Management

We manage and treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and superficial thrombophlebitis — conditions involving blood clots in the veins.

Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) Management

For those with CVI, especially post-DVT, we provide guidance and treatment to alleviate symptoms such as swelling, pain, and skin changes.

Vein Interventions

One size does not fit all. We offer all available options for treating lower limb varicose veins and guide you through a personalised consultation — unlike other clinics where choice may be limited.

Educational Resources

We provide patient education on vein health, lifestyle changes, and prevention. Our work is internationally recognised, and we regularly teach at conferences and training events worldwide.

Follow-Up Care

After treatment, we offer follow-up appointments and scans to monitor progress and adjust your care plan as needed.

Anaesthetic

Modern techniques use heat or chemical energy to seal veins quickly and comfortably. Most procedures require only local anaesthetic, virtually eliminating the pain and bruising associated with traditional vein stripping surgery.
