VEIN CONDITIONS WE TREAT

Vein Conditions We Treat

At The Vein Clinic, we diagnose and treat a wide range of vein conditions affecting the legs. These conditions can vary in severity, appearance and symptoms, and often require careful medical assessment to identify the unaderlying cause before treatment is considered.

Some vein problems are primarily cosmetic, while others reflect underlying venous disease that may progress if left untreated. Understanding the condition involved is an important first step in ensuring safe, effective and appropriate care.

Conditions We Commonly Assess and Treat

Our consultant‑led service provides assessment and management for a broad range of venous conditions, including:

  • Varicose Veins

Enlarged, twisted veins caused by faulty valves and venous reflux. Varicose veins may cause aching, swelling, skin changes or complications if untreated.

  • Thread Veins (Spider Veins)

Fine red, blue or purple veins visible on the surface of the skin. These may occur in isolation or be associated with deeper venous reflux.

  • Venous Reflux

A condition in which vein valves fail to function properly, allowing blood to flow backwards and pool in the legs. Venous reflux is a common underlying cause of varicose veins and thread veins.

  • Leg Ulcers

Chronic wounds around the ankle or lower leg that may be related to long‑standing venous disease. Accurate diagnosis is essential to guide appropriate management.

  • Phlebitis and Venous bleeding

Painful inflammation of surface veins, sometimes associated with clot formation, which may require assessment to exclude deeper vein involvement.

Each condition is assessed individually, as symptoms and appearances alone do not always reflect the underlying problem.

Why Accurate Diagnosis Matters

Many vein conditions share similar symptoms, and visible veins do not always indicate the full extent of venous disease. For this reason, treatment decisions at The Vein Clinic are guided by careful medical evaluation rather than appearance alone.

Assessment typically includes clinical examination and vascular ultrasound to identify venous reflux, assess vein structure and determine the most appropriate management approach for each patient.

Consultant‑Led Care

All assessments and treatments are led by a consultant vascular surgeon. This ensures that diagnoses are accurate, treatment recommendations are appropriate, and care is tailored to the individual condition identified.

Where treatment is indicated, options are discussed clearly and based on a full understanding of the underlying venous problem.
